Ok, one more running post

I said I wasn’t going to post about running any more, but maybe just one more.

At least two things have occurred to me recently while running:  you don’t generally want to use the earbuds you wear running in non-running situations, and carrying your iPhone in your sweaty hand while running is awkward, dangerous and often disgusting.

First off, running with earbuds in is a necessity.  The problem is that when I run, my ears head everything sweats and so the earbuds are in contact with said sweat.  Then, once I am all showered and ready for work, the thought of putting those earbuds into my clean ears gives me the willies.  I have a mental image of my smelly ears emitting twin visible vapour trails of BO behind me as I walk around at work.  So, I will therefore be buying a set of cheap earbuds for exclusive use while running.  Problem solved.

Next is the necessity of carrying the iPhone while running.  I never purchased a belt clip, case or anything I can use to fasten the iPhone to my person, so if I want to track my runs I need to carry the iPhone in my hand as I run.  This becomes an issue since as you can imagine my hand gets a tad sweaty and my grip on the phone becomes a little precarious.  An armband is the ticket, for sure.  This decision is a bit harder, since there are a ton of options out there.  Haven’t decided yet, but I think I like this one.

That’s it, no more running posts.

  1. I like that case! Do you have the mic on your ear phones too so that you could talk on the phone without trying to get the phone off the case?

  2. I haven’t yet bought the earbuds for running, but I think a mic would drive the price upwards, I may just opt for music-only ones to keep them cheap enough for the abuse they will likely take.

  3. Not to mention that Lloyd has already eaten a pair of earbuds here. And a Wii numchuck (sp?) but who’s counting?

  4. I bought a running arm band for my ipod…just make sure if it goes around your upper arm using velcro that after much use it’ll still stick and now run down your arm. Just a thought…

  5. We have lots of the “in the box” iPod earbuds! I’ll bring a pair or two over. Rob doesn’t like them, they don’t fit my ears (I have yet to find a pair of earbuds small enough), and I can’t bring myself to throw them away. It may buffer the Lloyd factor at least a little.

  6. I have tried several combination’s of earbuds and armbands for running. Generally earbuds will get tugged out of my ears after a couple strides, and it becomes more of a task to listen to music than run.

So far the best I’ve found are the Sony Sport Neckband Earbuds as they are sweat resistant and they don’t fall out of my ears when I’m running. But, sometimes I have to clean my headphones off with alcohol swabs otherwise they can get kinda nasty.

Also, I too have an armband from Griffin, and it works for me pretty well with my iPhone.

I actually got my stuff at an online store that has headphones and armbands for runners. Chcek out http://www.podbuds.com.
