{"id":1355,"date":"2008-11-18T08:00:28","date_gmt":"2008-11-18T12:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vallentyne.com\/blog\/?p=1355"},"modified":"2008-11-14T17:19:53","modified_gmt":"2008-11-14T21:19:53","slug":"presidential-webcast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vallentyne.com\/blog\/2008\/11\/18\/presidential-webcast\/","title":{"rendered":"Presidential Webcast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Remember how I worried that in order to lead today you should really be able to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vallentyne.com\/blog\/2008\/07\/16\/breaking-news-old-fart-too-old-to-be-president\/\" target=\"_blank\">embrace technology<\/a>? \u00c2\u00a0I also worried that the old guy was actually a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vallentyne.com\/blog\/2008\/07\/22\/mccain-is-now-6-days-older-than-the-last-time-i-said-he-was-too-old\/\" target=\"_blank\">clue-less dinosaur<\/a>? \u00c2\u00a0Anyway, it seems that my worry was needless, since McCain really should have given that old Internet thing a closer look.<\/p>\n<p>There is a lot of proof that <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.wired.com\/27bstroke6\/2008\/10\/obamas-secret-w.html\" target=\"_blank\">Obama&#8217;s use of the Internet<\/a> has not only been <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.wired.com\/27bstroke6\/2008\/11\/propelled-by-in.html\" target=\"_blank\">a crucial piece of his victory<\/a>, but has <a href=\"http:\/\/bits.blogs.nytimes.com\/2008\/11\/07\/how-obamas-internet-campaign-changed-politics\/\" target=\"_blank\">forever changed American politics<\/a>. \u00c2\u00a0Didn&#8217;t hurt that he recruited one of the co-founders of Facebook to help, I suppose.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s going to be fun and awesome and probably very rocky for a while until everybody figures this stuff out.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153There will be a lot of collateral damage coming to grips with the fact that we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re in a reality TV series, \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcPolitics 24\/7,\u00e2\u20ac\u2122\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Mr. Newsom said.<\/p>\n<p>That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a good thing, Mr. Trippi said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153This medium demands authenticity, and television for the most part demanded fake.
