{"id":1472,"date":"2009-01-16T08:00:39","date_gmt":"2009-01-16T12:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vallentyne.com\/blog\/?p=1472"},"modified":"2009-01-29T12:07:31","modified_gmt":"2009-01-29T16:07:31","slug":"bus-strike-day-too-fricking-many","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vallentyne.com\/blog\/2009\/01\/16\/bus-strike-day-too-fricking-many\/","title":{"rendered":"Bus Strike, Day too fricking many"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well as the days without bus service grind past without an end in sight, it seems that the city is rebooting the entire discussion with the union and is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ottawacitizen.com\/Business\/City+prepared+hire+fact+finder+transit+dispute\/1181430\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\">proposing that a third party investigator be hired<\/a> to &#8220;fact find&#8221; both sides of the scheduling issue.\u00c2\u00a0 Of course the union hasn&#8217;t agreed to this yet, but since it&#8217;s probably on the city&#8217;s dime I&#8217;m thinking that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ottawasun.com\/News\/OttawaAndRegion\/2009\/01\/03\/7906356-sun.html\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;The Inconveniencer&#8221;<\/a> will probably agree.\u00c2\u00a0 Although agreeing on anything really isn&#8217;t his style, it does seem that he isn&#8217;t completely bereft of sense and agreed to let the city hire some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ottawasun.com\/News\/OttawaAndRegion\/2009\/01\/15\/8035531.html\" target=\"_blank\">replacement ParaTranspo workers<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s really the only reasonable thing the union has done to date, but it should have happened weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p>On at least one cheery note, Clive Doucet <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ottawasun.com\/News\/OttawaAndRegion\/2009\/01\/15\/8037401.html\" target=\"_blank\">must have received a sturdy whipping<\/a> from city council for publicly breaking ranks and saying that Mayor Larry was handling the strike badly.\u00c2\u00a0 That remark alone probably cost us at least another two weeks of strike time, as it probably only served to stiffen the union&#8217;s resolve.\u00c2\u00a0 Still it seems that he apologized for those remarks today with his tail between his legs.
