{"id":3497,"date":"2015-05-31T14:41:13","date_gmt":"2015-05-31T18:41:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vallentyne.com\/blog\/?p=3497"},"modified":"2017-04-07T13:00:06","modified_gmt":"2017-04-07T17:00:06","slug":"wine-pairing-for-normal-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vallentyne.com\/blog\/2015\/05\/31\/wine-pairing-for-normal-people\/","title":{"rendered":"Wine pairing for normal people"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night Nikki and I went to the <a href=\"http:\/\/westendwell.ca\/\">West End Well <\/a>to go and see Heather Heagney for a wine and (vegetarian) food pairing night called <a href=\"http:\/\/westendwell.ca\/events\/taste-spring-wine-tasting\">A Taste of Spring<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I think 20 year old me might have laughed heartily at the thought of having that kind of night, but I will say that I not only enjoyed it, I would go back again.\u00c2\u00a0 The food was delicious, the wines were really good and went perfectly with the food, and the folks there were really a lot of fun.\u00c2\u00a0 We will definitely be back to check out the store when it&#8217;s open for regular business.\u00c2\u00a0 It was a great way to learn something about food and wine in the least snobby way possible.\u00c2\u00a0 There was no pretentious swishing and spitting here, and nobody asking me if I detected the notes of slightly distressed Peruvian gummi bears in the wine.\u00c2\u00a0 Nossir, you got your wine and food, Heather told us all about it\u00c2\u00a0and why they went well together, and then you ate and drank until the next course came out.\u00c2\u00a0 Tasty tasty all around.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of Heather, this gal knows her stuff about food and wine.\u00c2\u00a0 If you get a chance to hear her talk about this stuff, you will definitely be entertained and learn something while you are at it.\u00c2\u00a0 I don&#8217;t recall ever trying to imagine music while drinking something before, but I did last night.\u00c2\u00a0 She&#8217;s fun and funny and smart.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, a great night for sure and I would highly recommend it to folks looking for a little variety\u00c2\u00a0 in their palate.<\/p>\n<p>Check out Heather&#8217;s blog here:\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aftertheharvest.blogspot.ca\/\">After the Harvest<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0 (Buy her book too.)<\/p>\n<p>Follow her here:\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/aftertheharvest\">@aftertheharvest<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/westendwell.ca\/\">West End Well<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last night Nikki and I went to the West End Well to go and see Heather Heagney for a wine and (vegetarian) food pairing night called A Taste of Spring.
