Truth In Advertising

Seldom has a commercial been so very very bang on in nailing that element of truthfulness to a situation, and more or less being honest about how people use their products.

Enter Folgers “Happy Mornings”, which is basically a drug flashback you have after a very busy night. This thing is trippy, to say the least. It makes me laugh because Nik and I have had more of these mornings than either of us can remember. No sleep and young children really make it add up some mornings. Oh, like, say this morning. And yesterday morning. And the one before that.

The kicker is we both quit caffeine a few months ago, but I’ll be damned if I can give up the coffee. Oh well.

Enjoy the show.

Mentos and Diet Coke Extravaganza

Talk about your home science experiments people. I saw a post on Boing Boing about this “scientific” oddity, which led this intrepid reporter to do some serious (ok about 20 seconds on Google) digging into this incredible phenomenon. Here are the fruits of my labour:

Slacker kids perform the experiment, not bad.

The best display though, comes here. These guys show some originality, and a budget. Very nice.

I had no idea that this benign combination of junk foods could be used for such hilarity. I’m thinking that we need to try this at home….

Ask A Ninja

Wilson reminded me today about Ask A Ninja and how frigging funny it is. It’s essentially an advice column where people write in and ask the Ninja questions, he answers them and then he usually kills them. Always very very funny. And he has a very cool theme song.

Here’s a taste, one of Wilson’s favourite’s: Minjas

I posted about this guy before, he’s even more consistently funny now I think.

Aeroplanes

Some airplane related videos this morning. I don’t really go looking for these things, it just sort of ends up that they are related.

First off, given last nights most excellent thunderstorm in the Ottawa region, I thought this was particularly appropriate. An air traffic controllers perspective of Fedex planes avoiding a thunderstorm over Memphis. It’s incredible for a couple of reasons; first off that’s a whole pile of planes landing in a short while, I have no idea how big that airport is, but man, they must be stacking them or hanging them up on the wall or something. Secondly, aren’t they cutting it a little close?

Then we have a couple of aerobatic videos. First it’s a WW2 veteran with some pretty sharp skills. Most interesting is the barrell roll while pouring a little drinky poo in the cockpit without spilling a drop. Amazing stuff.

Finally an incredible display of RC piloting, indoors and set to music no less. I had no idea a plane could do this.

Speechless.

Some video today, I can’t exactly describe it myself. First, a laughing Yogi, the audio echoes from this will stay with you for a long time to come. I can’t stop looking at his floppy hands from that clip. Then, much more uncomfortably, a monk who is really really really, um, really dedicated to his faith.

Man, and they wonder why people don’t go to church anymore. Ok, that was a low blow, I really shouldn’t kick them when they are down, etc.

I don’t think there’s much more I can say, or much more I should say, really.

This came from the WFMU blog. Apologies to (any one of the 6 of) you who might read this if this offends you.
